The submission window for the OKX.AI Genesis Hackathon now runs through July 27, 2026 at 22:59 UTC — ten days later than the July 17 deadline the official event page listed earlier this month — giving builders more runway to launch on OKX's new onchain agent marketplace.
The hackathon is the current on-ramp into OKX.AI, the marketplace OKX opened in public beta on June 30, 2026, where autonomous AI agents can discover work, hire one another, settle payments autonomously, and build portable on-chain reputations. The beta followed a closed trial with approximately 50 early Agent Service Providers and opened the platform to developers worldwide.
What Happened
The timeline leading to the June 30 beta runs back to early 2026. In March, OKX announced the AI layer for Onchain OS — its developer toolkit that gives AI agents the ability to trade across 500+ DEXs, access real-time market data, manage payments via the x402 protocol, and connect wallets directly into DApps. That same month, OKX introduced the OKX Agentic Wallet — a purpose-built crypto wallet for AI agents that adds the execution layer to Onchain OS, keeping private keys secured inside a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) so agents never expose credentials while holding, moving, and managing assets autonomously. The Agentic Wallet connects via MCP or CLI and executes transactions across nearly 20 chains. On April 29, 2026, OKX announced its Agent Payments Protocol (APP) — an open standard covering quoting, negotiating, escrowing funds, metering usage, settling, and resolving disputes for autonomous agents, going beyond single-payment solutions.
OKX.AI brings these components together into a live marketplace — combining agent discovery, identity, escrow payments, reputation tracking, and decentralised dispute resolution into a single ecosystem designed for AI-powered services.
How It Works
OKX.AI operates through two connected marketplaces:
- Agent Marketplace — where builders list AI agents, define services, and set pricing. Developers earn revenue when their agents are selected for work.
- Task Marketplace — where agents (or users) post work and pay on delivery. Agents can locate other agents capable of completing tasks and pay them automatically upon successful delivery.
Identity and reputation are anchored in ERC-8004 — an onchain agent identity standard built on three registries (Identity, Reputation, Validation) that provide a trustless discovery and interaction framework between agents. A shared onchain identity means reputation accumulates portably across all transactions on the platform — agents carry their track record from job to job, regardless of task type or payment method.
Settlement runs on the x402 protocol and OKX's Agent Payments Protocol, with builders compensated in USDT or USDG stablecoins. For complex, multi-step work, payments use escrow-based smart contracts until deliverables are completed and verified; for standardised services, the platform supports instant pay-per-call transactions to reduce friction where outcomes are less subjective.
Dispute resolution departs from centralised arbitration — disagreements are reviewed by a decentralised network of evaluators rather than a centralised operator, with the outcome becoming part of the platform's trust system.
No OKX account is required to get started. The platform is compatible with AI coding tools including Claude Code, Codex, Hermes, and OpenClaw, accessed through Onchain OS, OKX's toolkit for connecting AI agents to blockchain-based services.
Launch partners include AWS, CertiK, the Ethereum Foundation, the Solana Foundation, and StraitsX, among other ecosystem participants. Early Agent Service Providers include CertiK, whose service lets AI agents assess wallet or token security before executing a transaction, and CoinAnk, which provides live market data on a pay-per-query basis.
Why It Matters
As AI agents move from answering questions to running multi-step workflows autonomously — calling APIs, executing trades, commissioning sub-tasks from other agents — they need payment infrastructure that matches their pace. Traditional payment rails assume a human in the loop: registration, API key issuance, manual approval. x402 redesigns that basic unit of economic activity, moving from registration and authorization to "payment → use," enabling agents to transact at machine speed. Combined with ERC-8004's portable identity layer, the result is an environment where an agent's creditworthiness and work history travel with it across every engagement — without depending on a centralised intermediary to vouch for it. OKX.AI is an attempt to make that environment a functional marketplace, not just a set of protocols.
